Hi Fellow Walkers
As indicated on the Walking SA web site, the 4 Seasons walk on Tuesdays, starting at 08:30am and most of the walks usually take between 4-5 hrs. C grade walks are also arranged on alternate Fridays and start at 09:00am. The walks are generally over a mix of terrains and physical challenges. As a group there are approx 10 members who lead walks covering from the Southern to the Northern Mt Lofty Ranges and just about everywhere in between. The club usually organises camps annually anywhere in the state or beyond.
As most of these walks are not near any public transport your own transport is necessary, however members attempt to car pool where possible. The club uses the UBD Street Directory to describe where each walk is scheduled to start from. You are expected to advise the Leader of your intention to join a walk by 6.00pm the day before.
The club is affiliated with WSA and as such there is a fee levied annually. Of this figure, some is paid to WSA as an affiliation fee and also for Public Liability Insurance cover for the club and its members. There is also a Personal Accident Cover provided through WSA for an additional fee which is levied optionally on a club-wide basis. Presently our members have chosen to take out this cover. There are no other fees levied by the club. Individual events, such as Camps, determine and levy their own fees, usually in conjunction with the Secretary/Treasurer.
As someone seeking to join the club you are welcome to attend 2 free walks, to allow yourself to determine if the club is right for you and the members to assess your compatibility with the group.
We have a walk cut off temperature whereby the walk is cancelled without notice if the forecast temperature exceeds 30° C in the location of the walk. We also have a club pack that provides additional information about club procedures. Prior to undertaking any walk with the club you will be required to sign a Risk Waiver Form.
The club is made up of approximately 40 members who are generally retired and in the 55-80 age range. We have a number of walk leaders and a 6 months walk programme is organised and made available to members. On any walk, between 4 & 8 walkers usually attend.
Hope this is of some use to you in choosing to walk with the club.
Feel free to call me if you have any other queries
